About this Content OER

The Moodle course was developed to accompany the courses in the module “Statistics for Educational Scientists” (lecture and exercise, which are linked) in the “Bachelor of Arts” degree program in Educational Science at the Ruhr University Bochum.

In terms of content, the course focuses on the basic statistical knowledge required to understand and classify findings from empirical educational research. The thematic focuses of descriptive statistics are: statistical variables and scale levels, tabular and graphical representations of frequency distributions, measures of central tendency and measures of dispersion as well as correlation and regression analyses. The thematic focuses of inductive statistics are: Fundamentals of probability theory and combinatorics, fundamentals of random variables and probability distributions as well as parametric and non-parametric significance tests and estimation methods.

Goals

This course is suitable for preparing for and following up on the content that is explored discursively in the exercise. In addition, it offers numerous opportunities for self-study and self-assessment during the semester as well as preparation for the final module examination.
