About this Content
Data has no form. It is therefore above all the medial communication of data that plays a decisive role. After all, it is only by making data available that it becomes addressable for human observation. Data and visualisation share a strong relationship of dependency, which is the focus of this media practice module. In the course, the fundamental conditions and limitations of the cultural technique of data visualisation are developed and tested in practical media exercises.
Goals
This course is a product of the teaching research project "Medienpraxiswissen" (http://medienpraxiswissen.rub.de). As an open educational resource, it serves to make a course from the project accessible to other teachers. The course is designed as media practice teaching. The aim of the course is to convey an understanding of visualisations that moves away from pure data representation and seeks an approach that makes the momentous design decisions on the way to the data image visible.
